I have never taken a writing course before, but I plan on taking one in the future. It's been more than a decade since I studied English Grammar in Grades 7, 8 & 9. Do you think starting with English Grammar, and then studying the ABCs of writing would be a good approach? Please advise.

A lot depends on the type of writing course and your purpose in taking it. Creative writing? Technical writing? A university literature course? For fun or for skills upgrading? One of the best things you can do to make yourself a better writer is to read good writing. And then you should practice and get feedback. As a writing tutor I found that each student had their set of strengths as well as a set of "pet mistakes" they made over and over. Find someone who will identify what's good and what needs improvement, and then tailor your efforts towards addressing your particular weaknesses as a writer.

Thank you very much. Every word of your advice is precious, and I just finished taking a basic writing course, which had some grammar in it.
