You are wrong my dear. Diode can never be used to amplify anything either voltage or current.

Amplifier is a device or combination of devices which is used to boost up the input amplitude. It can be IC or Transistor to amplify the input we have to provide external source and a input.

simple amplifer multiplyes a constant to the input signal in essence it incress the amplitute of the input!
