The faculty senate of a university has 50 senators to be apportioned among its four colleges based on the number of faculty in each college. The colleges are Liberal Arts (L), Sciences (S), Business (B), and Engineering (E). The number of faculty in each college is shown in the following table. The standard quota for the College of Sciences is See attach pic->

u mean, 355/ 1369 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

27.38?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I added up all the numbers and devided by 50 and got 27.38?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

never done this sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get 355/ 1369 you added up all which is 1369 and how did you get the 355?

OpenStudy (ganpat):

355 is Faculties in Science..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so the next step would be to?

OpenStudy (ganpat):

whats is SD from the formula ??

the pic attach on the first comment is the image that they gave me and the question is as above

so I was assuming 50 from the question but like I said , I have never done this type of question before

OpenStudy (ganpat):

ok as per my understanding, Science faculty is 1369/ 355 = 3.85..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

additional notes that may help Note: SD is the Standard Divisor. Note: Each State has a Standard Quota

OpenStudy (ganpat):

and chance of selecting senate from science faculty = 50 / 3.85 = 12 .98..

OpenStudy (ganpat):

does it make sense ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it does...I wasnt sure of how to break it down

OpenStudy (ganpat):

Quota for senate in science faculty = 12.98

OpenStudy (ganpat):

calculator :-p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much :-D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im in my final stage of my math exam and this exam is worth 11% of my grade :)

OpenStudy (ganpat):

so u understood right ?? general quota =Total population/ Science population and senate quota = 50/ science general quota.. so it worked ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I wasnt sure how to get the science population so I added it all up which was correct and then divided by 50 so I skipped the science population part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now I know the proper steps

OpenStudy (ganpat):

cool !! understand the logic behind that..
