OpenStudy (rishabh.mission):

what is mechanism of acid catalysed dehydration of ethanol to yield ethyne?

OpenStudy (goformit100):

it's IONIC REACTION

OpenStudy (rishabh.mission):

i am not sure ...

OpenStudy (goformit100):

use Redox Reaction as basic and deal with the question then

OpenStudy (kainui):

So basically this is acid catalyzed which means you use an acid but end up with the acid again and it isn't used up. Also, this can't be a substitution reaction because you're losing protons. The formula goes from C2H6 to C2H2 so we must have had two elimination reactions. Since the beta hydrogens are attached to primary carbons, you know it's an E2 because there's no way a primary carbon can be a stable carbocation.

OpenStudy (rishabh.mission):

okye i'll try.
