We can harness gravities force as a source of energy?! I really don't understand how we can harness a conservative force like gravity for energy... In general can a "force" be a "source"(lol rhymed) of energy?! When I think of it... When force makes an object accelerate or from rest to motion there is a transfer of potential energy... But what if that same force applied is very strong! Would the potential energy transfered be more? I keep getting confused on this matter always! Thanks!

Example: Moving an object requires a greater force to overcome "friction" when moved slightly little energy has been transfered... When moved greatly! More energy has been transfered?

Find a stream or river, also known as a mass of water accelerating downward under the force of gravity. Stick a paddle wheel in it. Attach the paddle wheel to a generator. Voila!

Carl_Pham is correct - hydroelectric power schemes depend on gravity as a power source. Interestingly, they can also store excess energy by using the turbines in reverse to pump water back up to the reservoir.

True. Really amazing how one of our natural forces is and can be a source of energy to feed our society today! Although whats interesting is the physics of that whole process! Water is accelerated due to gravity. Force will be great on the turbines thus more energy is generated(Correct me if I'm wrong).

Same when you wind up the weights on a grandfather clock, or any weight-driven clock.

Amazing stuff really.
