Ted weighs twice as much as Julie. Mike weighs three times as much as Julie. Together, Ted, Mike, and Julie weigh 210 lbs. What is the weight of each person?

OpenStudy (shane_b):

T=2J M=3J T+M+J=210 It's a system of equations...can you solve that?

OpenStudy (shane_b):

It's not even really a system...just plug in for T and M in the last equation and solve for J.

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Once you have J, you can easily figure out T and M given the first 2 equations.

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Do you need help going from there?

OpenStudy (jackellyn):

** Ted=2x Julie=x Mike=3x * Ted+Mike+Julie=210 Substitute the values given above to *equation, combine like terms and solve for x. Then substitute again to ** to find each weight.
