Which set of numbers does not create a triangle? 115 cm, 65 cm, 1.5 m 5 m, 9 m, 1500 cm 12.5 ft, 3 yd, 19.75 ft 6 yd, 33 ft, 15 yd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I remember like there is a rule that the addition of two lengths can not be longer or shorter than the last side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I keep forgetting if it's shorter or longer though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think longer.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the sum of any 2 sides must be greater than the other side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yeah !! thanks @cwrw238

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so will it be the last choice

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

convert each option to same unit: 115 65 150 cm 5 9 15 m 12.5 9 19.75 ft 6 11 15 yd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks What About This Question What is the order of the side lengths of triangle ABC from largest to smallest? c, b, a b, a, c c, a, b b, c, a

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

second one looks suspicious right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess it does but i think its the last option 6 yd, 33 ft, 15 yd

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

no - not that one - 2 are in yes and 1 in ft 33 ft = 11 yds - so that one is triangle

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

* 2 in yards 1 in feet

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you can't compare properly unless they are all in same units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it has to be 115 cm, 65 cm, 1.5 m

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

no - its 5m 9m 1500cms this is same as 5m 9m 15m 5m + 9m = 14m which is less than 15m so no triangle with these lengths

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

second option cannot be a triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which one do you think it is

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

follow? as for second question - the longest side is opposite the greatest angle

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

it is the 5m 9m 1500cm triangle

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

- though its not a triangle - lol!!

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

seriously - do u understand why thats the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES the rule makes a little sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so will it be b,a,c ?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For a triangle with sides a = 15 and b = 8, side c must be less than what length? Type the numeric answer only in the box below. Numerical Answers Expected!

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

b is opposite largest angle, 80 degrees c is opposite smallest 31

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

c must be lass than 15 + 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

will that be the Numerical Answers c must be lass than 15 + 8
