(x2 + 2x - 1)(x2 + 2x + 5) how to foil

OpenStudy (anonymous):

FOIL = First, Outside, Inside, Last

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, I would take x^2 and distribute it to (x2 + 2x + 5) then take the 2x and distribute it to the (x2 + 2x + 5) and then take the -1 and distribute it to (x2 + 2x + 5), than add like terms and get your simplified solution/answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^4 + 2x^3 + 5x^2 + 2x^3 + 4x^2 + 10x -x^2 - 2x - 5, Add like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You will get x^4 + 4x^3 + 8x^2 + 8x - 5 as the final solution after you FOIL it all.

thanks alot it really helped out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's no problem. :]

3xy -1)(4xy+2) can you help me i get one answer and it keeps telling me its wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. FOIL states to do the First term of each in the (). So 3xy * 4xy = 12x^2y^2, then you do the Outside which is 3xy * 2 = 6xy, then the Inside which is -1 * 4xy = -4xy and then Last is -1 * 2 = -2, put it all together, you get 12x^2y^2 + 6xy - 4xy - 2, add like terms, you will get, 12x^2y^2 + 2xy - 2.

Do you understand? D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah thanks i had the last part wrong than

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D: No problem.
