The figure below shows the cross section of the scale model of a roof of a house. What is the length of the height RS of the roof rounded to the nearest tenth? 12 7.5 5.6 10 I got 7.5 am i right?
i got 12 do you want the work?
Hint: Pythagoras triplet.;;)
@imstandingherealone I also got 12, check again:)
Oh must of done something wrong! I'm so bad with math. Thank you :)
what triangles u considered for similarity
@imstandingherealone try again, we all make mistakes :D use pythagoras for three different triangles, play with equations and you'll get the answer. Let me know if you get stuck anywhere :)
you have three rectangle triangles! do as @Champs and @ash2326 have told you it is not too long
Using the pythagorean theorem 3 different times is easier than using similar triangles, I think. First, I'd label the sides |dw:1342025152544:dw| Big triangle: x^2+y^2 = 25^2 Small triangle on right: x^2+h^2 = 9^2 Small triangle on left: y^2+h^2 = 14^2
Oops. Correction: Small triangle on right: 9^2 + h^2 = x^2 Small triangle on left: h^2 + 14^2 = y^2
@SmoothMath the 14 is actually 16
Haha also a good point. My degree is in math, not arithmetic ;)
So the three equations to use are x^2 + y^2 = 25^2 9^2 + h^2 = x^2 h^2 + 16^2 = y^2 And Helder, I'd just point out that answers without explanations are worthless. So don't give them.
