(-1/2) divided by (-4/5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tell me what you're thinking. What are the rules for dividing fractions (hint: you have to turn it into a different kind of problem...)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-1/2) / (-4/5) = 5/8

@MathDoodler You just provided an answer with no explanation, thereby teaching Emergey absolutely nothing. This is directly against the code of conduct for the site.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, now that she/he knows the answer, he/she can work the problem out and figure out how I got the answer. It is a lot easier sometimes to figure something out if you already have the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know if you are doing it right or wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now that she/he knows the answer, what incentive is there to work the problem out? This person IMMEDIATELY posted a very similar question right after you answered this one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I don't know. Maybe he or she might want to pass the test that she/he more than likely will have on these. That is good incentives to want to figure it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm a math teacher. Trust me, it doesn't work that way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, don't give up hope. Some students do want to learn and you can't save them all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A student will either want to learn or they will not. You cannot force a person to learn.
