it's getting smaller and smaller by 5 so the formula is an = -5n + b substitute the first term to find b n = 1, a_1 = 7 7 = -5 + b b = 12 an = -5+ 12

Anyway, in general, if you have an equation a(n) = hn + k, the k is the starting number, and the h is the amount that the sequence goes up or down by each time.
