The cost of shipping a package in dollars, C, is given by the function C(w)= 20+5w/12, where w is the weigh in pounds of the package. How many more dollars does it cost to ship a 12 pound package than a 6 pound package?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 25 for the 12 pound package but... my answer for the 6 pound package came out as an odd fraction. not sure what happened.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

45/2 for 6 lbs 25 for 12 22.5 for 6 lbs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh gosh... where did i go wrong on such a simple problem... XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try to express it as decimal because cost should be in dollars and cents anyhoo.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use perenthesis they are your friend :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :c i shall next time!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20+5w/12 20+(5*w)/12 even tho i think both are the same it is better idea to put in the parenthesis :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mhmmm... it will be helpful to keep myself orderly when i write down the equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup and since you are in a computer always use parenthesis and seperate multiplications with a * so it is 5*w not 5w it just makes it better for when you later plug it into google or maple or what have you.

right!
