Help with problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://i.imgur.com/Xrvqc.png I know its pretty simple but my brain feels like scrambled eggs so can someone help me out on this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start with \(x^2+(x+7)^2=17^2\) and solve carefully

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you do with the (x=7)^2? Do you FOIL it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you square it, yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is what i meant by "carefully" do not write \((x+7)^2=x^2+49\) or your teacher will think you are a moron write \((x+7)^2=x^2+14x+49\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2x^2+14x=240\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What next? (Im sorry, but i can barely see straight right now so im in no thinking condition)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

240
