Identify the horizontal asymptote of f(x) = x^2 + 5x - 3 / 4x-1

Figured it out since the degree of the numerator is bigger then the denominator there is not horizontal asymptote

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to divide the numerator by the denominator (since at present the fraction is improper - the degree of the numerator is greater than the denominator). Then you examine what happens as x tends to infinity (or negative infinity).
