a painter bought 8 gallons of paint, just enought to cover 2 rooms. one room is twice the size of the other and requires 3 coats of paint. the smaller room requires only two coats. then the client decided not to paint the smaller room after all. Let x be the number of gallons it takes me for one coat of paint in the large room and y be the number for one coat of paint in the small room. how many gallons of paint will be left?

2 gallons

I don't think that is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was right thank u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x + 3x = 8 x=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now the small room was not painted so, 8-x=6 gallons was used in painting.
