Suppose that to send a telegram it costs $2 for the first 10 words in the telegram and Y cents for each additional words. a. Write an equation to find the cost C of a telegram 26 words long. b.Solve this equation for Y. PLZ show me how to do this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C=200+(W-10)Y C represents cost, W represents total words, Y represents cost for additional words. For a, we simply put in 26 for W, which gets us C=200+16Y. To solve this equation for Y, we subtract 200 from both sides and then proceed to divide both sides by 16.

why 200 instead of 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because the prompt said that Y was measured in cents, and we want them to be measured the same, so we did 200 cents instead of 2 dollars. If it had said that Y was measured in dollars, we would have used 2.

ooohhhh ok thant makes cents. lol No Pun Intended ;)
