A game board is made of felt cloth. Every small square on the game board has sides of length 3.5 inches, as shown below. What is the area of the felt cloth required to make the game board?

So for an area of the square we just multiply Base*Height. We count how many little squares make up the right side and that's 8. We do 3.5*8=28, this is our right side. Since it's a square, we can assume now all sides are 28 inches. Now all we do is 28*28 and that gives us 784 inches squared.

|dw:1342122349838:dw| We multiplied those 2 together. If you add up all the 3.5 inches little blocks that gives you 8 of them and 3.5 times 8 = 28 inches.
