How is motion of planets around the sun an example of 2 Dimensional Motion?
2 axes vary, i.e. only x and y and not z... the planet does not move upward or downward.
|dw:1342186018395:dw|
here x and y vary, but not z, and in the orbit
It should be either 3 or 1 why 2 ?
there are 3 dimensions, x,y and z namely, but only x and y vary, so "motion" is only in 2 dimensions, and since z does not vary over time it is 2 dimensional motion
what would it be like if it was 3D?
I thought as soon as we came to space it becomes 3D?
here x, y, z all vary so this is motion in 3 dimensions
Look, there are two things, motion, and dimension. In motion we only consider those dimensions which are varying. Think of it as an example, like a car, if it is moving backward or forward only, say along x-axis, so only x changes and y remains 0,we say there is motion in 1 dimension, when it moves forward, backward and turns as well, y axis varies so it is motion in 2 dimensions. Since a car cannot fly, 3rd axis, that is, the z axis remains zero, so we count it as motion in 2 dimensions
In motion of planets there is only x axis?
if there is only one axis then the motion is always rectilinear; either in x or y or z as|dw:1342188043074:dw|
but y remains 0 in this case? planets
if u go through planet's motion it is circular that x & y both co-ordinates vary as |dw:1342188139616:dw|
