i assume you meant to type x^2 + y^2 = 6400 That is a circle with radius 80. Using the distance formula the family lives sqrt(50^2 + 70^2), or sqrt(7400), miles from the station. Sqrt(7400) > 80 so the family lives beyond the reach of the signal. The answer to part 1 is no. The answer to part 2 is that they live beyond the 80 mile reach of the signal. Related Q&A:
