why are asexual reproduction is called somatogenic reproduction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's not a term that I'm familiar with, but "soma" means body.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

'Soma' means body (the term 'somatic' is related to the body) and 'gen' (or genic') is related to the term 'generate'. Thus, somatogenic reproduction may be read as (offspring) 'generated by the body', or 'body-generated' offspring, in contrast to the germ (sex) cell mediated reproduction.
