Factor 2x^2 - 8

Parth (parthkohli):

How about starting with factoring out the \(2\) and then continuing by the difference of squares thingy?

OpenStudy (ledah):

factoring out 2? distributing it?

Parth (parthkohli):

I mean - factoring the expression in such a way that 2 is outside the parentheses.

OpenStudy (ledah):

Sorry not sure I follow.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(x-2)(x+2)

Parth (parthkohli):

For example, in the expression \(2x - 6\), you can factor out the 2 and get \(2(x - 3)\).

Parth (parthkohli):

Do you find it much better by the example?

OpenStudy (ledah):

Still a bit confused... :l

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2(x^2-4)=2(x^2-2^2)=2(x+2)(x-2)\]

Parth (parthkohli):

Do you know how to divide \(2\) and \(2x^2 - 8\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just use wolfram alpha. HERE: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=2x%5E2+-+8 You just type the polynomial and it will factor it for you!

Parth (parthkohli):

@sami-21 Should you the whole solution.
