Which describes the nature of the roots of the equation? 5x^(2)+5x+3=0

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what do you mean by "nature" exactly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure what they really mean. but these are the Multiple choice answers. A. two unequal real roots B. one real root and one imaginary root C. one real root D. two unequal imaginary roots E. None of the above

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

oh i see..you find \[b^2 - 4ac\] do you know what those letters mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=(-5 \pm \sqrt{25-4*5*3})/(2*5)=(-5\pm \sqrt{-35})/(-10)\] So we have two unequal imaginary roots. D is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The two imaginary roots are: x=[-5+sqrt(35)i]/(-10) AND x=[-5-sqrt(35)i]/(-10) where i is the imaginary unit, i=sqrt(-1)

Thanks! I hope It helps!
