True or False, the number 3 is an upper bound for the set of roots of this polynomial function. f(x)=3x^4 -5x^3 -5x^2 +5x +2 True?

Parth (parthkohli):

What is meant by 'upper bound'?

Parth (parthkohli):

By the way, you can find if 3 is a root by substituting \(x\) with 3.

Parth (parthkohli):

If you get 0, then it is a root.

Parth (parthkohli):

If you have a guide, then you can try it yourself :P

i am

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 80 by substituting x with 3

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

i think +2 is the upperbound for set of roots for this polynomial if upperbound means max value of a root.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you are not getting 0 it means x=3 is not the root

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A plot is attached.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok i see when u substituting you should get 0 as the answer to know its a root?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

@SantanaG is this from Rational Roots test topic ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ok then rob's pdf shows everything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool thanks everyone! :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np hope u figured out the answer :)
