Since the ration of saving to spending is 9:8 we can look at either side of the ratio as a part of a whole or sum. That being 17 (=9+8).
So she saves 9/17 of the money and spends 8/17 of the money.
Multiply the total money by either of the two fractions above to get the respective amounts saved and spent.
