Complete the Next Step: A partial solution to the equation 5(2x + 3) = 85 is given below. Choose the step that is missing from the solution. 5(2x + 3) = 85 10x = 70 x = 7 10x + 3 = 85 2x + 15 = 85 10x + 15 = 17 10x + 15 = 85

wow who wrote this mess?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D - through distribution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5(2x) = 10x 5(3) = 15 Thus 10x + 15 = 85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess D, but that is a rather silly method easier to divide both sides by 5 and get \(2x+3=17\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73 they're probably practicing distribution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But yeah, dividing by 5 would've been simpler. Take care!
