PLEASE PLEASE HELP The figure below shows CB = 8, BE = 12, AB = 3x – 1, and DB = 4x + 2. If ΔABC ~ ΔDBE, the value of x is _________

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is one triangle inside of the other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If so, which?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heres a picture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cool. Set up a proportion, simplify and THEN cross multiply...getting... 2(4x + 2) = 3(3x - 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8x + 4 = 9x - 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Therefore: x = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get 2 and 3??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you set up a proportion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If so you'll get: 8/12 = (3x - 1)/(4x + 2) 8/12 simplifies to 2/3 because both can be divided by 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once you've simplified like above, you can cross multiply.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That better?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok Thank you soo much and yes
