how do you find a Degree of a Polynomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Degree is the highest power so look for the highest power of the variable..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you have \[x^3 + x\] for example, the polynomial would be of degree 3 ... the highest power on the term x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example: In \(ax^4 + bx^2 + c = 0\) Highest power of x is 4 so Degree = 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Some quick examples: f(x) = 5x^7 - 17x^4-9 degree 7 g(x) = 2x^3 -8 degree 3 h(x) = x+18 degree 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what if it was 2x3y4 + 6xy2z5

thanks
