Show all work in simplifying (3x2+3x-36)/x^2-x-6 (Be sure to list restrictions) plz help.

OpenStudy (allank):

Please clarify: the first part of the question: (3x3...... do you mean a multiplication sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no I mean a variable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would u like me to draw it out.

OpenStudy (allank):

excellent. just a sec..

OpenStudy (allank):

(3x2+3x-36)/(x^2-x-6) So lets first work with the numerator: 6x+3x-36=9x-36 Lets factor it to get: 9(x-4) Denominator now. That quadratic (x^2-x-6) factors into: (x-3)(x+2) Combine the numerator and denominator: 9(x-4)/(x-3)(x+2) No further simplification can be done. As you can see, restrictions are: x=3 and x=-2 because for those values of x, the denominator will become 0, and division by zero is undefined.

Thank you so much! :)

You're welcome :)
