The Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo by Jose Rizal can be considered as literary classic of the world. It tackled a lot of Philippine societal issues like the education system in the Philippines during the Spanish Colonial Period, the extreme power and control of the clergy over the government, women empowerment (shown by Sisa), the real Filipina (embodied by Sisa and not Maria Clara since Maria Clara was the embodiment of a "Hispanized" Filipina), and many more.
