Do inflammatory mediators promote inflammation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Welcome to OpenStudy. To Start, do you know what inflammatory mediators are? Please give me more information on this subject, I dont have a clue of what you are talking about, I believe it this question has no correlation to Biology.

OpenStudy (blues):

Inflammatory mediators do indeed have to do with biology. Inflammation is the body's response to damage - like a cut or a bacterial infection. Inflammatory mediators are small molecules that translate the mechanical damage or bacterial challenge into a physiologic response. The answer is yes and no - some inflammatory mediators promote inflammation but some also damp it down. Otherwise the body would have no way to stopping inflammation.
