since the two triangles have similar angles, we can equate the ratio of their sides. line FE:line ED=line BC: line AB                                                                                 8:3=16:x                                                                                                                     16/8=x/3                                                                                                                    16*3=8*x                                                                                                                      48=8*                                                                                                                         48/8=x                                                                                                                        x=6
