A ramp represented by segment PQ in the figure below is used to load cargo on a truck. Maya wants to find the length of the ramp. http://learn.flvs.net/webdav/assessment_images/educator_geometry_v14/0309/0309_G12_Q48.gif What is the length of the ramp used?

Even just a formula would be helpful?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Think tri.QTS and tri. QRP are similar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sir

OpenStudy (anonymous):

triangles PRQ & STQ are similar ratio of any of their corresponding sides is same PR/ST = PQ/QS 18/12 = PQ/16 PQ = (18/12)*16

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

There^ this should help you!

I'm not sure I understood that @Ramya25 I kinda have the idea but I haven't done geometry in two years. o.o I'm trying to help someone and I have the worst migraine ever so (if you don't mind) elementary language would be extremely useful. Thank you for helping me, btw!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok this is actually very simple. only thing to be careful about is to figuring out which two triangles are similar.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

assume, you figured out that PRQ & STQ are similar triangles somehow.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay
