I'm not sure if my answers correct. Solve for x: 5/x^2-4+2/x=2/x-2? is the answer x=8 and x=-4?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

We have \[\frac{5}{x^2-4}+\frac 2 x=\frac{2}{x-2}\] mutiply both sides by \((x^2-4)x\) we get \[5x+2(x^2-4)=2(x+2)(x)\] so we get \[5x+2x^2-8=2x^2+4x\] we get on simplifcation \[5x-4x=8\] or \[x=8\] Did you do the same thing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah, I have the same. I went wrong by going with x=-4 it's just x=8. thank you very much.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

welcome:D
