Can someone explain the problem below?

\[12x^{3}+3x ^{2}y-48xy-12y ^{2}\] \[3(4x ^{3}+x ^{2}y-16xy-4y ^{2})\] \[3[x ^{2}(4x+y)-4y(4x+y)]\] \[3(x ^{2}-4y)(4x+y)\]

It's factoring by grouping. It's hard to understand..

What do you need explained? It's basically factorising the given polynomial. First by finding a common factor (3) and putting it outside the other terms. Then by finding other common factors (x^2 and 4y) and putting that outside the respective terms to which it applies, with 3 still being applied to everything.
