A cube of side length 10 cm is intersected by a plane perpendicular to the base as shown. Part 1: Describe the shape of the cross section formed by the cube and the intersecting plane. Part 2: Find the perimeter of the cross section. Show your work.
what shape you think ?
Well its definitely a triangle.
it makes a triangle..
i see a rectangle of 10 x 5
it is asking for shape of "cross-section"
that shape is grayed in the pix. check once
Oh, not what it makes. So ya a rectangle, but where did you find the 10x5? The height is 10 I know, but wheres the 5?
ill explain that. but first, do u get what cross-section means ?
Its what intersects the shape, from the insides, right?
thats right ! think of it as, you are cutting the CUBE with the PLANE. cross-section is just the interface between the two
width 5... isnt it just the hypotenuse of the corner triangle ?
The hypotenuse would be on the other side of the corner..
Wait, would you use Pythagorean theorem to find the missing side? Because if it is a cube, then the missing sides would be 3 and 4 wouldnt they?
thats right ;)
:) I just realized that! So then 2(5)+ 2(10)=30
yep ! thats the perimeter of cross-section
Thanks!!
