OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will find way. Thanks a lot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, I can help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Hi! Can you please help me solve this? I will Try to solve too and let you know in a minuete. The following table shows several facts about hybrid and nonhybrid car. Vehicle Purchase Mileage rating Tax Credit Hybrid $29,500 28miles per galloon $2200 Nonhybrid $25000 20 miles per galloon None If the average price of the gas will be $1.95 per gallon, how many miles of driving will it take before fuel savings of the hybrid will make up for its greater initial lost."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@waterineyes here they help me post. Thanks @Champs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the break even point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, no clue..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@waterineyes I solve it last night and my answer is 11,077miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait let me try..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but I am not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@waterineyes Thanks a lot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Champs if you know how to solve this then go ahead my friend..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Put x kilometer and equate both. Actually that point is called break even point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What I did is First I calculated the Initial Cost. Hybrid 29500-2200=27300 non hybrid which is 25,000 then is subtracted them and get 2300 initial cost @waterineyes @Champs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

( Initial cost + running cost) Non hybrid = ( Intial cost+ running cost) of Hybrid. I'm not sure about what's is tax credit. If it's a benefit take +ve. otherwise -ve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@waterineyes @Champs then i subtracted the mile age 28-20=8mpg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it will be positive because it is being credited and not debt..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok (29500- 2200) + (x/28) x 1.95 = 2500 + (x/20) x 1.95. Now can you solve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think we should call here someone more intelligent in solving these types of problems..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops that's 25000 not 2500. Please note.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is right.. Go ahead first solve what Champs has suggested to you..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks @Champs @waterineyes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please let me know the answer..:) I want to cross check it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Champs 2661.75x=2437.5x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@waterineyes why? how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

27300+ 0.0696x = 25000+ 0.0975 x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Go slowly.. Champ will explain you..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

27,300-25000=0.0975x-0.0696x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm getting 82437..:P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please cross check.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

82437.27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that's one of your option?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Champs my classmate has 82 565

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty close.. Let me try now..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay..take more decimals when you divide 1.95/28 and by 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both the answers of yours matching then how are you both incorrect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it depends on how many decimal places you are taking.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so when I take more decimal I will be close to 82 565

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess this answer is fine.:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We've taken four decimals right? More than enough. Or your friend might have used some othere method which doesn't involve decimals at all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will show you hoe he did @Champs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.95/28x-1.95/20x=2300

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is exactly where we are reaching finally right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.95(28x-20x/20x times 28=2300

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8/560=2300/1.95=1179.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.95/28 = 0.0696 .......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/70=1179.5 x=1179.5x70=82565

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So this is more accurate I think. As he didn't use the decimals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks @Champs here is a medal for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are welcome and thanks for the problem. Actually these are business types of problem. Helps in making decisions. You'll do lot of such problems if you go for MBA sort of things.:) Keep posting.@nia_maepenix
