Max is a circus dog. His main trick is jumping through a hoop. Lately, however, Max has gained a little weight and completing his stunt has become increasingly difficult. In order to be guaranteed to make it through the hoop, the diameter of his belly must be 2 in less than the diameter of the hoop. If the hoop has an area of 25π in2, what is the largest diameter Max's tummy can reach without endangering his act?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know what the area of a circle is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no just the area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the hoop has an area of 25π in2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know what the formula for the area of a circle is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A=pie*r^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so to find the diameter you need to find the radius 25pi=pi*r^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide by pi
