cos x= 3/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get how you would type that into a calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you have a trig problem with x with the function , switch around the x and the other side and do the inverse cos^-1(3/12), inverse of cos can usually be found right above the cos button and be used by pushing the 2nd key

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what calculator are you using?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have a scientific calculator , im putting 3 divide 12 but its not coming out to 76 like the example says thats why im confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK do this, do you see the shift button?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

press shift then the cos button, on the display you'll see cos-1 then type opening bracket 3/12 then the closing bracket, do you follow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\cos^{-1} (3/12)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then press equal sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got .25 which isnt the answer was i doing something wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, OK lets try first to simplify 3/12 its equivalent to 0.25 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kyia

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yupp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now follow these steps: press shift then cos button type in 0.25 press equal sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nothing is comping up :/ im sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe you jumping a step, but if you have a scientific calc and follow the three steps you'll get 75.52 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i pressed SHIFT then i pressed cos typed in .25 and it stayed at .25

OpenStudy (phi):

i pressed SHIFT then i pressed cos typed in .25 and it stayed at .25 after the 0.25 press =
