You'd be surprised how many firefighters don't even truly understand fire, something many people in the fire community are trying to improve (education about how fire works). If you ever want to see what a flame sheet looks like, you can "slice it" by sticking a grid of metal screening that draws the heat away horizontally though the middle of the luminous flame and looking down from above. As long as the wattage of the fire is low enough, the heat conducted away by the metal screen's wires is enough for you to stop the chain reaction past that plane, allowing to see a cross section in real time! (careful though, fire is potentially deadly, as are the hot gasses, and fumes from unburnt fuel) |dw:1342802227010:dw|
