factor 6x^3 + 13x^2y + xy^2 - 2y^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, by inspection,I can say x-2y is a factor of this. now divide it by this factor to reduce the number of factors to 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+2y is a factor of this polynomial, to get the other factors, try to us long division. hope this helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep i was wrong, x=-2y reduced the polynomial to 0. so, the factor is x+2y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Taking. ( x+ 2y) as a factor we can write  6x^2(x+2y) + xy (x+2y) -y^2(x + 2y) (6x^2+ xy-y^2)(x+ 2y) Further factorizing  it (6x^2 + 3xy-2xy-y^2)(x+2y) {3x(2x+y) - y( 2x+y)}(x+2y) (3x-y)(2x+y)(x+2y)
