I can read the code quite well, but on trying to do the problem sets, i cant see to understand the calculations that should be done. can anyone recommend what i could do to improve on this aspect.

Hi! Do you mean you have problems with the actual maths, or with how to express it when writing code? Understanding why Newtons method works is complicated, but applying it shouldn't be. As for all the mathematical concepts here: understanding just to "do" them shouldn't be so hard, but if you really want to understand what's going on, you probably need to study it separately. programming doesnt require a lot of maths, I think you just need to know +, -, *, /. That's enough. The important thing is the concept that you have to deal with
