Okay, so I was surfing and saw this picture with the following question: How big is the chance to answer this question correct? a. 25% b. 50% c. 75% d. 25% It's my summer vacation and my brain is currently in the off position.. Any of you able to figure this out?

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

25 % 4 options to pick so..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah but two of those options have the same answer.. that changes things, it has to...

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

lol yeah didnt notice that 2/4 = 1/2 = 50 % nice question :)

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

scratch that this looks involved

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's kind of a headbanger... It feels like I'm trying to do math while I'm drunk...

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

(1/2)*(1/2) + (1/4)(1/4)*2

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

assuming all answers are equally likely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

explain yourself...

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

P(25% being answer) = 1/3 if it is an answer then P(picking it) = 2/4 = 1/2 P(25% overall) = (1/3)*(1/2)

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

P(50% or 75 % being answer) = 1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3 P(50% or 75 % being picked) = 2/4 P(50% or 75% overall) = (2/3)*(2/4)

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

giving up... :'(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why? I thing you got the answer...

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

no clue how to combine these :\ P(25% overall) = (1/3)*(1/2) P(50% or 75% overall) = (2/3)*(2/4) my head hurts...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it doesn't matter what you do with those two... Since it would never lead to any of the answers above... thought, it seems correct to me...

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

sorry i didnt get you. you mean answer should be one of the listed ?

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

ok google has something related... checking :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah the answer should be one of the listed.... the questions was asked exactly as stated above.. I don't know anything else either.. Which is why it's bugging me XD

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

How big is the chance to answer this question correct? a. 25% b. 50% c. 75% d. 25% -- if i say 25% is the correct answer, then probability is 50 % (since two of them are there). so its not correct. -- if i say 50% is the correct answer, then probability is 25%. so its not correct -- if i say 75% is the correct answer, then probability is 25%. so its not correct not that i understand it completely.... but it makes some sense now :) question cannot be answered
