Use complete sentences to explain how you would use graphing technology to find the solutions of 0 = 2x2 − 3x + 0.5. What do the solutions of 0 = 2x2 − 3x + 0.5 represent on the graph of the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a quadratic function, since the degree is 2. What shape does a quadratic function make?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk a square ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. Depending on your level of math, I would review the shapes of basic functions. Linear, quadratic, cubic, etc.... From here you can say, "When 'y' is 0...what is 'x' telling me?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is 0 ? idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, when you plug the equation into a graphing calculator. The resulting shape is that of a parabola.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if you trace the parabola visually, whatever 'x' is when y = 0 are the solutions to that equation. They are the x-intercepts. The function may not have any at all but will have at most 2.
