Solve D = ABC for A A = ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are you getting stuck on?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[D = ABC\]divide both sides by B \[\frac DB = \frac{ABC}B\] \[\frac DB=AC\]now divide both sides by C \[\frac D{BC}=\frac{AC}C\] and simplify

The whole thing....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, A is being multiplied by BC, so do the opposite of multiplication to get it to the other side with D

OpenStudy (theviper):

D=ABC A=D/BC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not having numbers threw me. I never thought of eliminating each variable leaving you with A = D/BC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you solve this 4=2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whatever you are solving for, treat that as the only variable, and everything else as a constant if that helps, and move everything to the other side like you would with normal numbers

OpenStudy (theviper):

If ax=b then x=b/a
