Does the equation y = 0.50(1.06)x represent growth or decay?

mathslover (mathslover):

In my opinion : it is growth wait for other users to reply also :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

growth because the coefficient of x is greater than 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops, didn't see the .5 being multiplied. it's decay because 1.06 times .5 is less than 1.

Thank you. My next question that goes along with this problem is: Use the equation to predict the price of tickets in the years 2000 (x=50) and 2010 (x=60).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, so then you would take your equation and plug in those numbers for x. Presuming that y is the ticket price, once you plug in those numbers for x that will give you your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got $921 so I'm a little concerned

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if x is 50 then you'll have .5 * 1.06 which is .53 then take that number times 50 which is 26.5
