The difference between the sum of two numbers and the difference of the two numbers is 6. Find the larger of the two numbers if their product is 15. (a) 3 (b) 5 (c) 17 (d)20 (e) 23

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

call the bigger number 'a', and the smaller number 'b'. then the statements in your question can be written as: (a+b) - (a-b) = 6 ab = 15

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

use the first equation to find 'b'. then use that in the second equation to find 'a'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it (b) 5?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yes - well done! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (asnaseer):
