find the location ( or coordinate ) of the point C if M is the midpoint of DC. D=-24 M=-9

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what is the distance between -24 and -9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i need to know i need the midpoint of that

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

no. that's the midpoint..you're looking for twice of that distance

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so basically the plan is you get the distance from -24 to -9 then multiply it by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok i just dont know how to do that

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

you do this |-24 - (-9)| im sure you're familiar with the signs i used?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh i think its -15 right?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

that's -24 - (-9) but note there's a | | sign that means absolute value so you need to make it positive so the distance is 15. got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya ok so the answer is 15?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

nope. that's just the midpoint. now multiply it by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 30

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

now since you're looking for the coordinate of C.. add 30 to -24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

that's the answer now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

you're welcome
