Carla made a solid wooden block as shown in the diagram below. She will paint all surfaces of the block.
What will be the total painted surface area of the block?
@jim_thompson5910
im guessing homeschool lol
yep:p
The front face is a rectangle. The length is 12 and the width is 3. So what is the area of this rectangle?
This is a lot like the parallelogram formula
36
Any ideas?
good
300 cm2 216 cm2 288 cm2 336 cm2 These are possible anwsers
The left face is a trapezoid, so we now move onto the formula A = h(b1 + b2)/2
The two bases of the left face are 10 and 6, so b1 = 10 and b2 = 6 The height is 3, so h = 3 Therefore, the area is... A = h(b1 + b2)/2 A = 3*(10+6)/2 Tell me what you get here
24
So the left face is 24 square cm
The right face is equal to this because of symmetry
So we have the front face, the left face and the right face so far...what about the bottom face?
:O idk
The length of that rectangle (on the bottom face) is 12 and the width is 10, so the area is...???
120 but thats not one of the choices :/
that's just a piece of it, one sec
So we just need to find the area of the top face and the back face
The top face is a rectangle that is 12 by 6 cm, so the area of that face is 12*6 = 72 square cm
The back face is a rectangle with length 12 and width 5, so that area is 12*5 = 60 square cm So we have the following areas Front: 36 Left: 24 Right: 24 Bottom: 120 Top: 72 Back: 60 Add up all these areas to get the total surface area
:D yay 336
you got it
