solve. (2x+3) - (5x - 7)=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets do this in steps. What do you think you should do first? Hint: Distribute the minus sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 2x + 3 -5x+7=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct. Now simply a bit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3x + 10=1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup. Now you just gotta solve for x. what would you do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract 10 from both sides then divide 3x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by -3x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100% correct... I bet you could have done this all on your own without myself. :D You will just need to multiply by a (-1) at the end so you don't have -x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

err without my help.. :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):
