OpenStudy (anikate):

what is tan, cos, and soh? plz dont give me any links

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan, cos, and sin are 3 of the 6 trigonometric ratios. Here they are. \[\tan = \frac{opp.}{adj.}\]\[\sin = \frac{opp.}{hyp.}\]\[\cos = \frac{adj.}{hyp.}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can remember the ratios using the nemonic device Soh Cah Toa which stand for Sine opposite hypotenuse Cosine adjacent hypotenuse Tangent opposite adjacent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well in geometry it is used for finding out sides of triangles by having one side and one angle. I don't know if you'll understand this but there is this one phrase that helps a lot. SOH CAH TOA Soh = Sin Opposite hypotenuse Cah = Cos Adjacent hypotenuse Toa = Tan Opposite Adjacent. If you use Sin you need to have the opposite or the hypotenuse. Opposite of what? Opposite of the angle. So let's say if you have a right triangle and you have one angle identified let's say 45. The side directly across the angle is the opposite. The other one that isn't the hypotenuse (Which is the longest one) is the adjacent. Sin Cos and Tan are all on the calculator but you have to know how to use them properly.

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer :)

OpenStudy (anikate):

thx guys, but I dont know how to give 2 medals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Unclick his and click on mine :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just kidding you can only give out one but it's okay, as long as you understand it(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't unfortunately. GO ahead and give it to @AmauryP though since someone else already gave me one :)

OpenStudy (anikate):

Alright thx guys I get it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem(:.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Glad to help :)

OpenStudy (anikate):

wait guys what are the other 3 trignometry ratios?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm afraid I do not know the rest. @Calcmathlete do you know them?(:

OpenStudy (anikate):

cna you plz show me all the names on a picture of a triangle itself?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The other three trigonometric ratios are the reciprocals of the other three. \[\sec = \frac{1}{\cos} = \frac{hyp.}{adj.}\]\[\csc = \frac{1}{\sin} = \frac{hyp.}{opp.}\]\[\cot = \frac{1}{\tan} = \frac{adj.}{opp.}\]Hold on. pictures will be up in a second. I'm only doing the first three though since the concept is the same.
